A Scenic River Ride

Nestled right along the Red River you'll find miles of trails that twist and turn through area parks. Not only are there miles of paved, but you'll also find plenty of places to stop along the way. Whether you're looking for some green space, a shady tree, or maybe some history at the Hjemkomst Center. These trails are sure to keep you entertained for your entire ride.

The Trails

The southern most point of the trail starts in Moorhead at Horn Park. On this ride we decided to start here. You can start at any point but it's best to start at a park where there is plenty of parking. The trail stretches northward all the way to the El Zagal Golf Course in Fargo. It's about a 6 mile ride from the park to the golf course and a 12 mile round trip. There are a few street crossings along the way, but for the most part, the trail is continuous and uninterrupted.

We offer standard bikes, and a couple different electric bikes to choose from. There are different sizes as well so you should find something that works for you. Obviously you can throw the bikes in the back of your pickup or SUV, but this can prove to be difficult if you have a smaller SUV or don't want to be climbing in and out of a pickup bed. To remedy these issues we recommend renting one of our bike carriers. The carrier will slide right into your receiver hitch and set up in minutes. This makes loading and unloading a breeze. Once you reach your desired unloading point just be mindful of parking signs. For example, the cul-de-sac at Horn Park restricts parking on Fridays.

Once you're on the trail you'll be pleasantly surprised how well maintained and wide these paved trails are. There are a few steeper points to climb but nothing your average person would have any difficulty concurring. Pay attention to stop signs at road crossings and watch for oncoming traffic. There are a few amenities along the trail but we recommend bringing everything you think you'll need with you. You can find restrooms and water fountains at Gooseberry Mound Park. There are also bike repair stations scattered along the trail if you find yourself in need.

Just a handful of items you'll want to have with you while you're out on the trail. We recommend having sunscreen, sunglasses, and plenty of water, especially in the summer months. Although bugs aren't so much of an issue while you're riding, they can become a nuisance when you stop. Bringing some bug spray along or applying before taking off might be a good idea. One great resource for this ride is the Fargo-Moorhead Bike Map. You can view the map here, or you can find their app in the App Store or Google Play.
