Ride Through Oak Filled Grasslands

Oak Leaf Loop Trail is a relatively low intensity mountain bike ride through the scenic Sheyenne Grasslands. Located near Leonard, North Dakota, this trial is just a 45 minute drive from Fargo. If you enjoy being out in nature, you'll love riding these gravel trails as they travel in and out of oak patches. This trail is not heavily trafficked, so take the time to enjoy these peaceful plains.

The Trail

The trail is a 4 mile loop trail. From start to finish the ride will take you about an hour and fifteen minutes. The trail is well maintained for the most part. Although, there were a few small washout spots to keep an eye out for. You'll find that the hard packed gravel makes for a great ride. It is also plenty wide. About 3 feet wide on average. There are no terrain features or jumps. It's relatively flat with just a few small rolling hills.

For this trail we recommend using our Bintelli electric mountain bike. The front and rear suspension make this decision very easy. Another option for renters would be to pick up our Popstar or Rockstar fat tire electric bike. There's no doubt these bikes will get the job done, but there is no replacing the suspension our Bintelli electric mountain bike offers. When it comes to transporting your bike rentals, add a 2 or 4 place bike rack to make loading and unloading as easy as possible. This will also ensure your rentals are not damaged during transport.

There is a large gravel parking lot right at the trail head. This lot is located very close to Jorgen's Hollow Campground. It's important to note that although you can camp at Jorgen's Hollow, there is no camping or over night parking at trail head parking lot.

There are a few things to keep in mind when heading out on the Oak Leaf Trail. First, this trail is also welcome to hikers and horseback riders. Bikers are to yield to both hikers and those on horseback. There are also cattle grazing on these lands. Be sure to keep your distance. Sense there are cattle, there are a few gates you must cross at varies points of the trail. To cross, just push up on the gate and ride under. The gate will close behind you. As always, be sure to pack plenty of water for your ride. It can get very hot during the summer months.
